One third of the community was flooded during the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway and its business section, churches and many homes were relocated. The St. Lawrence Parks Commission plays a major role in tourism in the Morrisburg area. It operates Upper Canada Village, a re-creation of pioneer life in the area, a modern 18 hole golf course, a newly developed marina, a migratory bird sanctuary and many campgrounds and picnic areas.
From theatre to Upper Canada’s historical early beginnings, visitors to Morrisburg area can enjoy a step back in time and visit Upper Canada Village Heritage Park, an award winning tourist attraction that recreates life in the 1860’s. Themed events capture the seasons and cycles of the 1860s, from the planting and harvesting of crops, to the re-enactments of births, weddings and even funerals.
Upper Canada Playhouse, a professional summer theatre produces shows inside the old toothbrush factory. Enjoy some of the finest live theatre in Eastern Ontario.
Or if you prefer, you can take a walk on the wild side at the Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary, and explore over 8 km of hiking trails, cross country ski trails, canoeing, camping, outdoor learning programs and special events throughout the year.
